We interpreted Romeo’s character as we did in our play because he is ecstatic that he just married Juliet, which also explains why he skips around the stage. It’s also the reason why Romeo tries to make peace with Tybalt, his new cousin-in-law, and why he’s saddened when Tybalt calls him a villain. In the beginning, he is annoyed because he is mad at Tybalt for being there. Even though he is not a Montague, he defends Romeo by shouting and stomping his foot at Tybalt, because they have known each other for so long and does not want anything to happen to him. He knows that Tybalt is a hot-tempered guy, and does not want Romeo to be involved with him in any way. Mercutio is not as calm as Benvolio and Romeo, and gets offended easily; that is why he gets angry and fights with Tybalt.
The reason that we have it in modern times is because it is still possible in our day and time for people to get mad at each other and fight. In fact, it probably happens more often nowadays, especially in the rural parts of Los Angeles. Furthermore, since there is no particular time period in Shakespeare's writing, we thought it appropriate for it to be in this time period.
All in all, our characters have unique personalities based on their characteristics. This one scene did have a huge impact on what happened in the future and it impacts many of the characters. We tried to portray our characters to the best of our abilities and tried to have them acting as they seem they should because their actions had a huge effect on the lives of the Capulet’s and
