Two Rivers Magnet Middle School Observation

Hi! I’m Katie and I attend Two Rivers Magnet Middle School located in East Hartford, Connecticut. I live in East Hartford too with my Mom, Nana, John - a family friend, and Kassie; my twin sister. My school is pretty cool, it's a CREC school meaning that you have to enter a lottery to get in and that any student from any town in CT can attend. Our school only allows about 600 students between the three grade levels, 6-8. There’s about 200 students per grade, split between two teams. At school, I don’t get to take much of a variety since its still learning the basics, but my core classes are Reading, Algebra 1, Writing, Science and Social Studies. After school, I play for my school’s Girl’s Basketball

Iowa Falls Riverbend Middle School is having renovations with the 6th graders moving in the next year. One of the renovations is of the science rooms during the summer. It all started when Karen Koenig, the 7th grade science teacher at Riverbend Middle school wrote a letter to the school board, noting the idea of renovating the science rooms before the 6th graders become a part of the middle school. At first they said they would think about it and then asked Mrs. Koenig about getting some ideas about what the room would look like. She has planned to take all the cupboards out and get rid of about everything in the room.…

Ever since Gale Ranch opened, there has been a school dress code. Gale Ranch students melted into a pool of anger and are now breaking it. Some students don’t like dress code because they think it doesn’t affect their learning and it doesn’t allow them to express themselves. Students seem to ignore the fact that the dress code is there to make the environment easier to learn in, so that students would not be distracted by what other people are wearing. Staff at Gale Ranch makes sure students follow the dress code by making them go to the office, and change into PE clothes.…

As a small, scrawny, confused 8th grade boy, the transition from a coed middle school - Roger Ludlowe Middle School - to Fairfield Prep was an enormous step for me socially and academically. At that time in my life, I was unsure if Fairfield Prep was going to be a good fit for me: all I had ever heard about the school were glowing reports from my older sister's friends who attended. Fortunately, looking back at it, attending Fairfield Prep was one of the most impactful and beneficial decisions I have ever made for myself as it inspired me to be "open to growth". This institution has not only pushed me academically, but it allowed me to stretch my comfort-zone and become more comfortable with myself.…

For my second observation, I observed behavior at Pinecreek Elementary School in the Brookville School District which contains grades one through two. I observed in the speech therapy room which is a separate room where kids get pulled out of class to receive therapy. I watched two sets of students, one was an individual therapy session and the other was a group of two students. Since the school is so small it is only necessary for there to be one speech pathologist, Mrs. Martz.…

To Play or Not To Play???“Put Me in Coach” When people reminisce about their high school years, fond memories of being at the height of fitness, spending countless hours with teammates, and playing in the “Big Game” are often treasured. However, some students at St. Anthony High School are choosing not to be involved in the athletic program for social and academic reasons. As a result, many are missing out on one of the most important aspects of their high school career. Although some believe that participation in high school athletics is a roadblock towards academic success and a satisfying social life, students should play at least one sport throughout high school because they will develop critical life skills and increase their physical…

I am helping out at the Jacob Hiatt Magnet School in a 4th grade class. Every week for 2 hours I am able to help students with their classroom activities. At the beginning, I use to just go around in class and help the students when they need help. Now, the teacher has me take the one or two students who are struggling and sit outside with them to help them catch up. This helps them to be able to be on the same page as everyone else and it makes it easier for the teacher as well because it gets really hard for one teacher to be able to keep everyone at the same page and finish the course material on time.…

If CCMS received one million dollars this is what I would improve the cafeteria, update the 7th and 8th grade wing, and sports. I would improve the cafeteria that way it could hold more people that way we don't have to have 1st and 2nd lunches. I would also improve the 7th and 8th grade wing because it's not really the best. First, I would improve the cafeteria. We need a bigger place to eat because everyone is all bunched up and it's way to crowded plus I think this might help other people that are claustrophobic.…

When I moved to Springfield Township from Cheltenham Township, I really despised the sudden change. I disliked almost everything about it but what I did not know at the time is that by my senior year I would eventually love this school as I molded it into a place that I wanted to be at. During the end of my freshmen year, I found myself with a new view of how I was going to cultivate at Springfield Township High School. After meeting a valuable presence that will have forever leave an imprint on me, I decided that I needed to get involved with school to become apart of it.
