The Importance Of Ethical Decision-Making

As Christians we are faced with making ethical decisions not only about ourselves, but also about others and this is especially important in our business professions. God has taught us that we should treat others with respect and dignity and should treat them, as we would like to be treated. When Christians make ethical decisions they should always consider what God has taught them and should always take each opportunity to make the right decision for not only ourselves but for others. The first one would be to use Rest’s model including steps 1 through 3 to determine what and how the ethical decision will affect all parties involved. It is imperative to use critical thinking to determine what the problem is as well as all possible alternative solutions to the ethical problem. Not only must a person be able to use critically thinking when engaging in decision-making, but they also must have an intention to do something about the unethical behavior. Rest’s step 4 needs to be elaborated on or should be combined with the Scripture model by addressing the person privately and giving them an option to do the right thing. If the person does not correct their unethical behavior after privately being addressed a person should take it to the next step of addressing supervisors and getting them involved in addressing the person. The last option is bringing the problem to the entire lead team so that disciplinary action can be used if the person does not change their unethical
