In the short story Two Little Soldiers, Guy de Maupassant introduces the characters Jean and Luc, although they act and look similar their personalities differ greatly. Maupassant uses the two characters to highlight the different aspects of falling in love and the feelings associated with them. One side which is pleasant and another side which is heartbreak. The more romantic part of love is shown through Luc and his relationship with the peasant girl. Their relationship is passionate and they are so in love with each other, they act as if there is no one else in the world and completely forget about Jean.
