The significance of stem cells can be defined by two important characteristics: they are cells that aren’t specialized for any specific tissue undergoing the process of mitosis to renew themselves and within specific and controlled factors, the not unspecialized cells can be evolved into certain types of tissues through the process of differentiation (2009). Scientists have recently focused and researched on two types of stem cells found in humans and animals: embryonic stem cells and adult or somatic stem cells (2009). These two types of stem cells can be used to take the place of dead cells or restore cells in tissues or organs that are in the state of detriment (2009). This is done through the process of In Vitro fertilization (IVF), which is a type of fertilization procedure where sperms fertilize several eggs in a lab, which occurs outside the body of a woman instead of inside her uterus (2009). An embryonic stem cell is considered pluripotent because it is in the condition when stem cells are divided to form specific tissues and organs, but cannot develop an entire organism (2009). A contemporary medical disease that is currently testing embryonic stem cells as a treatment choice or form of therapy is Alzheimer 's disease (Oma 2011). The most remarkable advantage about using embryonic stem cells instead of adult stem cells is that it can be easily grown through the process of cell culture, which can be controlled and specialized to become any type of cells (2009). Scientists are hoping that these stem cells can help an injured or damaged brain by allowing it to start moving toward the part of the brain that are in need of repair and eventually divide itself through the process of proliferated (Oma 2011). This should be applied only when the research is benefiting and saving the lives of the majority of the people who are seeking medical aid, as well as decreasing the risks of these diseases. Even though, scientists don 't fully understand if embryonic or other stem cells will be rejected by the body after transplantation, gaining the government’s support will help scientists improve on their research and hopefully find many solutions without dealing with serious or hazardous side effects (Hollowell 2002). Some organs’ cells cannot produce more cells, such as brain cells and heart cells, which rarely go through the process of mitosis; therefore being able to grow more stem cells, whether it’s embryonic or adult, could save many lives that are experiencing diseases that affect these essential organs
