The significance of stem cells can be defined by two important characteristics: they are cells that aren’t specialized for any specific tissue undergoing the process of mitosis to renew themselves and within specific and controlled factors, the not unspecialized cells can be evolved into certain types of tissues through the process of differentiation (2009). Scientists have recently focused and researched on two types of stem cells found in humans and animals: embryonic stem cells and adult or somatic stem cells (2009). Adult stem cells are considered to be multipotent because it is in the condition when stem cells are divided to take the place of any type of cells within its own system that are injured, which means that they are directed to form for specific tissues (2009). A contemporary medical problem that is currently testing adult or somatic stem cells as a treatment choice or form of therapy is the transplant of bone marrow (Mcdonald-Hyman 2015). The immune system usually rejects any foreign threat that might harm the body, but by using adult stem cells, the chances of the immune system rejecting these stem cells from the patient’s own tissues will be unlikely (2009). Scientists, recently, have discovered that a patient experiencing a bone marrow transplant doesn’t have to use drugs to suppress the immune system in order for it not to reject any cells from transplantation, which is still in the pre-clinical stage, but heading towards the actual human clinical trials as soon as scientists have a better understanding of it (Mcdonald-Hyman 2015). An advantage that Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells have over embryonic stem cells when it comes to helping cure diseases and giving treatments to lesions is that they’re able to differentiate these stem cells into specialized tissues for many essential organs in a more progressive manner (Choi 2010). Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells are also used to make drugs in labs for patients with various types of diseases (Bosley 2012). Some disadvantages that Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells have faced are having a higher rate of cells dying more than other stem cells, such as embryonic stem cells, and these stem cells can become abnormal cells, which might be the cause of cancer (Choi 2010). The advantage that embryonic stem cells have over induced pluripotent stem cells in this case is that it is inexpensive to obtain, even though it may cause some controversy over ethical, moral, and medical issues (Bosley
