The first issue that rose from the newspaper is that Wal-Mart’s retail company has been sued by Fresno law firm because of wage problem happened in the company. Many Wal-Mart truck drivers were unsatisfied about their salary because Wal-Mart did not pay to them for all the tasks they did. Those unpaid tasks include waiting in line to load or unload their cargo, time spent to fill out the federally mandated trip slips, washing and fueling their trucks. Theories that can apply to solve the problem are Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and Herzberg’s two-factor theory.

According to Herzberg, salary is one of the hygiene factors and some study state that salary can also be a motivation factor. When truck drivers did not satisfy their salary, they are work with low motivation factor and also low hygiene. Workers can become de-motivated if hygiene factors are not met. This will result they stop continue work at Wal-Mart and change their job. The turnover rate in Wal-Mart increases. If the Herzberg’s two-factor theory applies in Wal-Mart, management not only must provide hygiene factors to avoid employee dissatisfaction, but also must provide intrinsic factor to the work itself in order for employees to be satisfied with their jobs. The appropriate and reasonable pay or salary should give to employee to remove their dissatisfaction. Beside, a bonus or overtime should give to employees to motivate them have a good performance in work. The managers must make sure that the work is stimulating and rewarding so that the employees are motivated to work and perform harder and …show more content…
Leader plays a major role in developing an ethical organizational culture because they are role model of ethical behavior that are characterized by an openness to discuss ethical issues and have fewer incident of unethical behavior. If subordinates see a leader being less than truthful and honest in business dealings, then they may believe that they can conduct themselves in the same way.With ethical behavior, leader should establish trust through transparency and accountability. They should provide open access to information about performance and strategies, be open about decision making and accept responsibility for wrongdoing. Leader should also have a strong self- control on them when they are dealing with unethical temptations. Self-control means putting personal motivations aside and acting with objectively by doing what is right.
