The story of Beowulf shows examples of heroism, Loyalty, bravery, strength, courage, and the desire to achieve immortality. As he risks his own life to protect the lives around him. He takes on leadership, being passed Hrothgar’s crown and full responsibility of the people of Herot. Being the mighty hero he is, will battle and slay any creature he comes across in order to save lives. He does not fight for wealth or praise. He fights and protects only for God’s judgment.
A demon known by Grendel attacks Herot, killing 30 of Hrothgar’s men. Without invitation, Beowulf traveled with his men to Herot to slay the demon and rescue the lives of Hrothgar’s kingdom. He then proceeds to fight Grendel with no armor or weapon. He slays Grendel by ripping his arm from his body, sending the creature in fear and pain back to its lair. Although not everyone thought so. Grendel’s Mother held Grendel in her arms as he passed, causing her to fill with anger and grief. She now seeks revenge for what Beowulf has done. The next morning, Beowulf wakes up to the horrific screams of women. As he jolts awake, he then learns that the men around him have been murdered. Beowulf now knows what he has to do.
Still showing bravery, Beowulf travels to Grendel’s lair to hunt down the demon’s mother. Hoping to end all terror and fear from the land of Herot. He takes his trusty right hand man Wiglaf and proceeds to the cave. Not knowing what to expect, Beowulf plunges himself into the water gripping the Golden Dragon Horn tightly in one hand and Hrunting in the other in search of Grendel's mother.
