~~~Science Project~~~
Experiment 1:
Materials~
2 eggs
Needle
Scale
Bowl
Marker
Question?
What is the difference between weight and mass, and can two objects that have the same mass be different weights?
Hypothesis
The difference between weight and mass is that mass is the measurement of how much matter is in an object and it will remain constant regardless of gravity. Weight is how heavy an object is depending on the gravitational pull on the object.
Step 1:
Zero out the scale.
Step 2:
Weight the eggs to see that they have roughly the same weight.
Step 3:
Take one of the eggs and poke a hole in each end with a needle.
Step 4:
Blow one side of the egg and allow the bottom hole to drain the insides into a bowl.
Step 5:
When finished,
Experiment 2:
Materials~
Legos (two of each, same size same shape, separated)
Scale or Pan Balance
Question?
Will two different structure consisting of the same parts weight the same?
Hypothesis:
The two structures will weigh the same even though the density is different.
Step 1: Separate the legos, one of each piece in each pile.
Step 2:
Build a dense lego structure (no spaces in it whatsoever) out of one pile
Step 3:
Build an open structure out of the remaining pile.
Step 4:
Zero out the scale if you have not already.
Step 5:
Weight the two structures separately and record the weights. Step 6:
Compare the results.
Results: The density of the structure did not matter as the structures each weighed the same.
Experiment 3
Materials~
Butter
Microwave
Scale
Bowl
Question?
Will the butter weigh the same in solid form and in melted form? Hypothesis
The butter will weigh the same when melted as it did in solid form.
Step 1:
Zero the scale
Step 2:
Weigh the butter stick.
Step 3:
Weigh the empty bowl.
Step 4:
Melt the butter in the microwave.(be sure to do it in ten second intervals so butter does not overflow)
Step
    Hypertonic Egg Lab Report
    In this experiment I attempted to created and study the affects of a egg in a hypertonic and hypotonic solution. To conduct this experiment I used the following materials: cups, eggs, vinegar, corn syrup, spoons and food coloring. To begin the experiment I placed three eggs in vinegar to dissolve their shells, leaving behind a thin membrane that allowed water to pass in and out of the eggs. The water molecules enter inside the eggs and the eggs begins to swell. Once the eggs have sat in the vinegar for two days I removed one from the vinegar, washed the eggs and placed it in the corn syrup.…
    Then, the egg was removed from its solution, rinsed in tap water, and placed in a glass. Once in the glass dish, the dish was placed on a triple beam balance, and the final mass was measured and recorded. 29 Minutes after being submerged in tap water, observations pertaining to egg A (the egg submerged in tap water) were recorded, and the egg was removed from its solution, and placed in a glass dish, to be placed on the triple-beam balance. Once on the triple-beam balance, the final mass of egg A was measured and recorded. 28 Minutes after being covered in saltwater, observations of egg C (the egg submerged in saltwater) were made and recorded.…
    The weight of the egg is expressed in grams, showing even a small difference of its weight due to water moving in or out of the egg through osmosis. This relationship between osmosis and the egg is shown above, and this is the reason for the weight change in the egg, whether it be to the inside or outside of the egg. This chart also shows the relationship of the weight of the egg, with the amount of time the egg was submerged in water or corn syrup. As well as explains what I observed while handling the egg, such as its heaviness, paleness, how swollen it became, and also its shell made flimsy from being soaked in vinegar before the lab. Something else that I noticed that was odd, was that the weigh boat didn’t register in weight on the scale, even after being zeroed and replacing the weigh boat on the…
    The carrot you only need a small piece of while the grapes you will need two to three and a handful of spinach leaves. Next you will need a triple beam balance to measure the mass of the items, a knife to cut the items and a large paper towel. Once you have all the materials you can begin the experiment. First make a table five by four table to record your data. Have four columns for the mass on the first day, mass on the third day, the difference between the two and the percentage of water found.…
    It was also hypothesized that if we place an egg in a high sucrose solution, then it would shrivel up, making it a hypertonic solution. The products of this experiment prove this hypothesis to be correct. The results show that as time increased, the weight change of the egg decreased. This completes the hypothesis because the high sucrose solution caused the egg to lose liquid and shrink in overall…
    Pill Bugs: An experiment Introduction Pill bugs are very small and can be found anywhere. Under rocks, in between cracks, in your science class; they are everywhere! However, it is common knowledge that pill bugs do not like to be in open spaces. There are just too many dangerous possibilities, and they don’t need to take the risks. In this experiment, we tested to see if light affected the decisions of where pill bugs like to stay.…
    I used one surgical glove, a big Gatorade bottle, saran wrap, a Dollar General Bag, string, and tape. The first thing I did was get the neck of the bottle off, I did this so I could get the egg inside of the bottle. The next thing I did was put the egg in the glove and put the glove in the bottle. I used the opening of the glove and taped it to the edge of the top. After that, I cut two holes in the bottle, both around the middle towards the bottom and pulled two fingers of the glue through each hole and I taped them down.…
    Atoms of the same element with different weights is because the neutrons make the difference on of weight in the atom and they can have more neutrons without changing the element like the protons would. The protons do have weight but they never have more than their supposed to. Protium is the original form of Hydrogen and hydrogen originally has one proton, one proton, and no neutrons. Deuterium adds a neutron to the element and makes it heavier than it was originally and then tritium adds another neutron and makes it heavier than it was.…
    More traditional tools for measuring mass are spring scales and triple beam balances. Discuss in terms of forces and torques how each of these tools can be used to determine the unknown mass of an object. Include in your discussion an explanation as to why mass measurements taken by a spring scale are affected by local variations in gravitational field strength, while those taken by a balance are not. The way a triple beam balance works has to do with the idea that equal masses on each side are being pulled downwards by gravity with equivalent forces.…
