The purpose of Sport Nation’s education system is to create the best possible athlete. After birth, newborns are raised in government hospitals by doctors and nurses; they will not have any connection with their parents. The medical staff will care for these babies until the age of 1 in a sub- section of the hospital. During that time, the babies will be fed a strict diet to enhance their physical and mental development. They will be trained to walk within 6 months of birth and run within 1 year. The children’s lack of an intimate connection with their parents represents the success of the totalitarian government’s efforts to redesign human nature. In Sports Nation, the government don’t want children to have a parental connection because it is a distraction from training. On the other hand, parents in the two dystopias still love their children. However, because of government intervention, the children cannot recognize this love, creating a barrier between parent and child.
