Many people think that Ultrasound is mainly to check a pregnant women uterus. Many do not know that it is used all over the body to detect any types of abnormality. Ultrasound are soundwaves with frequencies higher than …show more content…
It may also be called uterine cancer. There are many lab exams to choose from, Fruhauf (2017) did use two different types of assessments in his study. As referred to Fruhauf (2017),”the imaging routine in preoperative assessment of endometrial cancer differs amongst the gynecologist … the accuracy of high end ultrasound in experienced hands is comparable to that of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).” As stated before, ultrasound are soundwaves going through the body, but for an MRI it uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create detail images of the organs and tissues in the body. As preoperative assessment it should include a pelvic examination and a transvaginal or transrectal ultrasound. Using a transvaginal ultrasound, it will be better to check the uterus from all infections or diseases. The equipment that was used in Frahauf study was a voluson E8, with a RIC5-9 transducer and a multifrequency endovaginally probe. For the ultrasound test the patients had to empty their bladder and get in a lithotomy position, when your legs are elevated and spread open. The whole uterus was examined from the cervix and the fundus. The tumor was then measured to see how far inside it is in the endometrium and myometrium junction. According to Frahauf (2017), the myometrial invasion was a subjective assessment that shows the size, proportion and vascular patterns of the tumor through dynamic test. The objective assessment requires the subjective assessment of endometrial and determination of its borders. A subjective assessment is based on personal opinions and feels rather than on facts. As for objective assessment is when your able to use all five senses, touch hear, smell, taste, and sight to determine the final decision of what the patient has. At the end of Fruhauf study, 210 patients were enrolled to have these test done. From 210 patients, 124 patients underwent open surgery and 86
