As a freshman entering high school, I was a three-sport athlete and had aspired to play at the varsity level. I had long visualized being under the Friday night lights in front of a packed stadium with my classmates rooting me on. However, my coaches told me I needed to “add more meat to my bones,” if I wanted to play varsity sports. Knowing that weight gain was not an achievable goal, I focused my efforts on strength training and improving my skills in my individual sports. There were many nights when I would be in the gym or at a field, and I missed out on spending time with my friends. Now in my senior year, the “Twig” is on two varsity teams – soccer and lacrosse, with an elevated game in each. …show more content…
In my freshman year of high school, I was placed into only one honors class, despite a strong academic record from junior high. Given my love of learning and excellence, I was exceedingly disappointed. Therefore, with the same resolution that I applied to my sports ambitions, I committed to my class time and homework. I met with my teachers when I had questions and tackled the material with energy and intensity. My efforts paid off! By the end of freshman year, I was approved for two additional honors classes and by the end of sophomore year, I was recommended for almost all honors and AP
