Twenty One Pilots originated in Columbus, Ohio, in 2009. The band was formed by, and consists of, two college friends, Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun. Joseph is the lead singer in the group and is the band’s rapper, while Dunn is the drummer in the band. Joseph came up with the band’s name while studying the play, “All My Sons” by Arthur Miller. The play was about a man who, after selling faulty airplane parts from his family business to 21 pilots, faces the moral dilemma of whether to admit doing so after the pilots’ planes crash. The man knows what he did was wrong, but he is afraid that if he admits what he did, his business will be ruined and he will not be able to support his family.
