Eight albums in and we’ve gone from a quiet little bar in anytown USA, steeped in nostalgia and sweetness to something else entirely. It was building from the start and although that only comes through in hindsight and by looking at the trajectory of his career, it doesn’t seem completely shocking that Tom Waits would end up making an album like Swordfishtrombones when he did, in 1983. Rising out of the jazz, blues and pop standard traditions he explored in previous albums, this is a theatrical reconstruction of those genres by way of a junkyard. The album kicks off with the stop motion percussion of “Underground,” setting the stage for this collection of songs made of things that the mainstream has discarded or buried.…

Conclusion The hypothesis for how 80’s music would make it harder for the participants to focus was accepted. The data used from the experiment that supports the hypothesis was the different genres of music that each participant listened to, one of the genres of music was 80’s music and the participants that listened to 80’s music had a harder time focusing on the worksheet and got more time for the trials with music than without music. I think the results came out the way they did is because when your doing a math worksheet especially basic multiplication you have to be able to think hard. It seems to be a cry for reform in the way that children are raised so that those that do not fit into the design are not cast aside. Before the modern education system currently implemented student were often forced into a system lacking in flexibility. “All Star” by Smash Mouth is encouraging song about choosing to be spectacular at what you do. The tone of the song is quite casual, written in first person and as if it was a conversation between the listener and the singer. It starts off with the singer admitting that “somebody once told me that the world is going to roll me”, and that he “ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed”. Clearly he doesn’t think that he amounts to much in the long run when it comes to following the rules and book smarts. This is furthered by him going to say that “it didn’t make sense not to live for fun, your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb”.…
