Leadership is necessary to create opportunities out of challenges. Control and command leadership styles are not quite popular. However, all kinds of leadership methods are successful in varying scenarios. The command and control method is useful in heightened emergency situations and during crisis periods. The narrative in the film Twelve O’clock High could be described as one requiring that kind of leadership. The movie is about a U.S. flying squadron that is based in England during World War II. The soldiers are putting up a poor performance which is evidenced by planes getting destroyed and professional pilots meeting their death. The soldiers become more successful, disciplined and professional. This is evidenced by a successful mission in which the unit carries out their duties without a leader giving orders from the front. In better terms, the good leader in Brigadier General gives birth to an independent taskforce which is robust and performance oriented. The loss of life decreases and performance is improved and the men start recognizing the success of the command and control style of leadership. The morale of the men heightens, and they begin to respect and understand their leader for seeing the bigger perspective and the purpose of an expert unit that carries out its duties with minimum life
