In the article Twelve Characteristics of Effective Early Childhood Teachers by Laura Colker (2008), the twelve characteristics consist of passion, perseverance, “willing to take risks”, pragmatism, patience, flexibility, respect, creativity, authenticity, “love of learning”, high energy, and “sense of humor” (Colker, 2008). Personally, I feel that they all tie together and I can see all of these characteristics found in an effective early childhood education teacher. For instance, an educator needs to be passionate about their job as well as being dedicated to their students. At times, teachers need to be willing to take risks.
