Don't try to make yourself believe in something that didn't happen. For example in the play " twelve angry men" Reginald Rose include these two witnesses with reasonable doubt. There was an old woman and old man who made themselves believe in things they didn't actually see. First the play mentioned the old man in scene one. In this scene it states why the old man made himself believe in what he saw and heard. The old man believes he saw the young boy run fast down the hall. During the young boy and his fathers fight he heard the young boy say " I'm going to kill you " to his father. All of this was happening during a train passing by his window and it was late at night. The old man claimed to walk from his room to the door to see the young …show more content…
They just wanted attention because they are alone and lonely. They have no one to talk to or spend time with so when they saw an opportunity to be listened to they took it. Why not testify to a crime committed? They would get their suspect and they live right across they boy, so that's a great way to get attention. Everyone would listen to their testimonies because how could they be false they are so close to the crime scene. The only thing that they did wrong was not get their timeline and disabilities in order. Otherwise this would be a whole different story. In conclusion, don't make yourself believe in something you didn't actually see especially for attention beause more than likely you'll get caught in a lie. The old people got caught in a lie because their story didn't match the timeline and other obstacles they faced like being slow and almost blind. They almost put a poor young boy in jail for life or given the death penalty just for a little attention. Never make yourself believe in things you didn't see because in the end you'll be the fool. You'll be the one responsible for ruining yours or someone else's

As students go through school, their minds are always being filled with knowledge. Each student learns and sometimes begins to wonder, how do we know the things we know. The things students are taught are not always concrete items that can be brought to them with solid proof, sometimes students believe things just because their teacher told them that is the truth. In chapter 5 of Mere Christianity C.S. Lewis talks about believing based on authority and how this belief relates to the everyday world and the faith. Lewis states that “ninety-nine per cent of the things you believe are believed on authority” (62).…

Democracy is defined as a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives. In “Democracy” by Langston Hughes and 12 Angry Men by Reginald Rose, both authors voice their opinions about democracy and equality. However, Langston Hughes speaks his mind for equality for all races and birthright freedom via poetry while Reginald Rose uses a drama to convey his ideas about equality in the American justice system. Although they share the same opinion about democracy and equality, the two authors use different strategies to express their different perspectives on democracy. “Democracy” by Langston Hughes tells of his fight for his rights as a black man.…

In the excerpt from Don’t Believe Everything You Think, Thomas Kida discusses the human belief system and the factors that influence them the most. He exemplifies how our beliefs may correlate to us making poor decisions when it comes to spending money and falling for quackery. Laslty, Kida highlights some major aspects of memory that many are unaware of- the fact that our recollection of past events are not always as accurate as we may believe, and that they are capable of fluctuating based on our feelings, mood, or environment. One of the points Thomas Kida made in this excerpt is the obvious yet so often overlooked fact that we are greatly influenced by the people we surround ourselves with and those we love.…

Many people agree that seeing is not believing. Many people would also, argue that seeing is believing but, there is much evidence that agrees to disagree. My three sources, The Courtship of Miles Standish, A Christmas Carol, and The People Could Fly support me with evidence to shut down any attempt of arguing that seeing is believing. Sure, people could argue that they have seen “god” or dreamed about something that actually happened but, it is all a trick of the mind.…

The texts ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, written by Harper Lee and ‘12 Angry Men’ directed by Sidney Lumet; both display contrasting features and qualities. While both are very diverse texts, they both share an undeniable resemblance, in relation to a single person affecting a group 's idea of a just and morally right decision. Prejudice and discrimination are a reflection of how both the accused characters in either text sway opinions about which course of action is correct. Two of the protagonists, Atticus Finch and Juror 8, exemplify how a single individual can drastically change what those around them perceive to be right and wrong. Children in both texts, specifically Jem and scout, and Juror 3’s son, are also an example of how one person…

In high school I was in a class where we did a lesson on philosophy. My teacher ignited a spark in our minds by explaining to us a short story about what we perceive to be factual. The story she explained was about two different people seeing a ball. The ball was orange on one half and green on the other half, so if you asked one guy, he would say the ball was orange and the other guy would say the ball was green, and they would argue with each other because they both thought they were telling the full truth. In reality, they were both wrong, there was a light shining on the ball and the ball was actually red on one side and blue on the other and the light made the ball look like a different color.…
