Feste is attempting to help Olivia see the folly of grieving for an extended period of time. He first appeals to her common sense, saying that if you “give the dry fool drink” then he is no longer thirsty. In the same manner, if you give a sad mourner such as Olivia something to be happy about, they are no longer morose. He adds that anyone dishonest can be saved- but only if they are willing to change. Feste knows she is being dishonest with herself when she says she can go that long without companionship. He tries to change her mind and save her from a miserable life. Feste then references her brother’s death, calling her calamity’s wife. Advising her not to be wedded to the idea of mourning and the circumstances that led to that thought,
