There was a posting on the job board at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. As I examined the job description, I applied. I realized that even though this would be a great job for me, it would not just be about a dollar but it would be an opportunity to make a difference.
· What has been your most memorable moment in the classroom?
One of the most memorable moments among many others; for me was when I finished a few presentations to fourth and fifth grade classes. It had been a long day of doing presentations. As often the case, trainers wonder how well they are affecting and engaging the students. After concluding, a training session a young person came up to the counselor, which was in the class and told the counselor about particular incident involving some type of abuse. The most rewarding aspect is the fact that I am making a difference. I can either curse the darkness or light a candle. When I present to elementary school students and the children come up and tell me thanks for coming and talking to us today, I recognize that I just lit a candle. When I talk to middle school students letting them know that they can learn about healthy relationships, I lit a candle. Informing high school students that if they have been assaulted they did nothing wrong, for me it is lighting a candle. This is what makes me stay with the program; it gives a voice to the victims of abuse.
