Social deviance refers to the state or fact of departing from accepted or usual behavioral standards in social society. Social deviance plays a very great part in many television programs across the world.
A television show that definitely displays social deviance is Cops. This television series displays police officers and deputies patrolling streets for car thieves, drug pushers, violent thugs and anyone else who is socially deviant in society. The show is an ambassador of many crimes committed and laws entirely violated. This show has no acting, narrating or any fictional pieces to it. These purposes play a great part of this television series. The distinguishing between the right and the wrong plays the biggest part of the television show. The criminals that are displayed in the footage of this television series is a perfect example of this function of deviance. The criminals know what they are doing is wrong, but it better benefits their needs, such as stealing a car for their own wealth, or vandalizing for simply their own entertainment. However, during this show, these criminals’ lessons get learned after not distinguishing the separates of right and wrong, and results in a major punishment for the crimes they commit.
