The TV series Lost is one of the few mind blowing and outstanding shows with perfectly layered writing. Lost ended with six season in total. It features many themes that seem to always be changing, leaving the watcher always on edge. Lost was a very expensive show to produce. The pilot alone cost $10 million dollars to create, ending the first season at a total of $50 million dollars. 23.47 million viewers tuned in for the premier of season 2. Lost started off with cast members raking in $20,000-$40,000 per episode but after a few seasons the lead role played by Matthew Fox ended up getting paid $250,000 per episode in 2005. Australian television shows, have they been portraying us accurately? Aussies are known to have that “take the piss out of each other” attitude but is it okay to take that attitude and show it to the public through the media? For example the TV show ‘Housos’, through the use of the characters characteristics, location and scripting (plot and dialogue) they have represented all Australians in suburban life as feckless individuals, low class citizens and uneducated Bogans.…

Orphan Black constructs a postfeminism text through the development and journey of multiple characters who exhibit the fluid representation of women, having the attributes blended of both masculine and feminine. Firstly, the main protagonist Sarah’s masculine traits are supplemented along with Sarah’s matriarchal priorities. Although Sarah parties at night, she plans on acquiring the funds to be able to provide a safe space for her daughter and for them to live together. Secondly, the overtly feminine Krystal, embraces the duality of sexual freedom as well as traditional gender roles. She takes on her self-defense classes while simultaneously existing in exceedingly feminine gender stereotypes.…

Big Brother is a competitive show that “follows a group of people living together in a house outfitted with dozens of high-definition cameras and microphones recording their every move, 24 hours a day” (CBS). These competitors are willingly putting their lives under a microscope to be examined as pure entertainment by a significant number of viewers. They knowingly are making their life into a form of art-like entertainment. However, when the show is finished, what happens to participants?…
