The Tutor Center and Learning Lab is part of the Academic Support Services Division and is supervised by the Manager of Learning and Library Resources. There are eight tutors located in the Tutor Center including three English tutors, three math tutors, one science tutor, and one accounting tutor. The Tutor Center and Learning Lab have provide individual and group tutorial assistance for students on a walk-in basis. Group tutoring is a popular format since it enables students to contribute additional insights and questions to the session as well as share learning strategies; however, individual or one-on-one tutoring is the most common. This theory placed student services area all in one building, so students could register for classes, meet with financial aid, meet with an academic advisor, and meet appointments with college tutors and utilize the Learning Lab. During the reconstruction of the college campus in 2007, the College made the decision to relocate the Tutor Center and Learning Lab to the college’s Library building. Also, the department name was changed to “Academic Support Services Center”. In addition, the areas within the Academic Support Services Center were renamed “Tutor Center” and “Learning Lab” and relocated to the College’s Library for integrating both services together. The Academic Support Services Division is located in the College’s Learning Resource Center. The Center houses the College’s Library, Disability Support Services Center, Tutor Center and Learning Lab. Tutor Center and Learning Lab continue to foster an environment in which all members are treated equitably and contribute to the College’s mission, vision, values, and goals. Both the Tutor Center and Learning lab provide a casual environment for students to work with tutors and access computers. Students attending the Tutor Center encounter people of diverse gender, age, race, and physical capability. Tutors combine different concepts and backgrounds of diverse individuals. “Diversity also includes differences in the psychological characteristics of employees, including personalities, beliefs, values, and attitudes” (McShane & Von Glinow, 2014, p. 15). Therefore, this diverse setting, where people came together to master a similar goal through discussion, had a positive impact on both tutor and student. Students having the experience of meeting tutors of different culture and backgrounds. Diversity in this tutor setting can also include returning adult students, foreign students, and students with disabilities. The increased social interaction between people of different cultures increases empathy for differences and improves the value of the tutoring
