When Francis was playing the qualifying round for the amateur open he lost on the last hole. He needed to get a 78 and misses a 3-foot putt. However in the Open Championship he is coming up on that hole again where he lost before. He knew he needed to adjust his golf game to win the hole. So he just relaxed and played his own game of golf and won the hole. His approached changed in the Open championship and he was more confident in his ability. The film takes an interesting turn next. After the final round of the U.S. open there is a three-way tie between Francis and two British golfers, Harry Vardon and his friend Ray. This is where Francis is at step eight the Ordeal. The hurdle that Francis has to overcome is beating both men in a playoff round of 18 holes so he can win the title of U.S. Open Championship. Some critics did not care for the movie, The Natural; however, I really liked it. My thoughts are it is a classic on morality, good versus evil. The cinematographer emphasizes this through lighting. The first scene with Robert Redford, Hobbes on the train platform is in low-key lighting suggesting a drama. Then shifting to the exact opposite of high-key lighting while a young boy practices baseballs.…

Knowledge of the game is decisive, in having adequate proficiency to play each shot consistently. Club selection, as well as awareness of position on the course are invaluable to well-placed shots.…
