Turned Into A Good Thing

The assignment I have been given asks me “Can any obstacle or disadvantage be turned into something good?” I believe this statement to be mostly true. Although I think that most things can be turned into something good, I would not go so far as to say that “any” thing can be turned into good. One of the only things that I can think of that can not be turned into good is your own death. Even though other peoples deaths can benefit you, your own death will not benefit you the majority of the time. I took a class in my second semester of college, it was called “Failure, Change and Integrity”. The class dealt with how to accept failure and in that class I realized that failure is actually a good thing. It means you have actually set a goal for yourself and did not achieve that goal, while failing give a bad feeling it means that you tried. The bad feeling that you get is somewhat a good thing. It makes it so that you do not want to feel that feeling again and thus try to succeed next time you try the task. The obstacles that you face, whether you defeat them or not only strengthens your resolve. …show more content…
While this is obviously done on purpose in order to illustrate the point of the assignment, it gets the point across. That when life give give you lemons, make lemonade. Turn that weakness into your greatest strength. One example I can think of is how children of immigrants can be one of the biggest success stories. They are taught by their parents that hard work is the key to success. While immigrants are working hard struggling to put food on their table, their kids are watching the struggle absorbing it and feeding on it. They are going many obstacles growing up therefore are strengthened and learn the importance of hard work. Children of immigrants are the number one demographic when it comes to successful entrepreneurs. The difficulties they faced in their childhood was a good thing it bred them for

Nelson Mandela once said,“The greatest glory in living lies not in never failing, but in rising every time you fail.” Failure helps you to become stronger because it helps you to set a goal. The reason you're failing is because of the way you tend to perceive the outlook on life. Have you ever been praised as a child? ; saying for example “you're so smart since you got an A at math” and feel as if you're only good at certain subjects throughout life and the thought of ever failing is demoralizing to you, you’re known to have a fixed mindset. Opposite of that if you tend to believe that working hard as an individual will lead you to success and setbacks are temporary, you have a growth mindset. Now you’re probably thinking at this point why do these mindsets determine the choices we make in life and how well succeed or fail in life, and how do we develop these mindsets in the first place, a controversial answer to that is how…

The courage to take chances, the ability to bounce back, the capacity to let go of shame, and the coping skills are some of the most important lessons of failure mentioned in the article. Particularly, in paragraph seven, Perez states, “The ability to bounce back is a fundamental life skill students have to learn on their own.” This implies that the aptitude to stand up after a failure would help students boost their chances to do well in college and increase the possibility to keep pace with the harsh realities of life. These lessons are crucial in our growth and development as an individual. Moreover, the lessons we learn from failure are principles that we need to hold onto because they serve as a…

The way you think is more about your mindset than anything; if you set yourself up for failure you will fail, if you set yourself up for success you will succeed. By seeing the difference between the old and new brain theory, as well as some new learning skills, students will be able to see that intelligence can always be changed and improved. A student who is willing to put hard work as well as discipline into their schooling can get whatever grades or diploma they want; despite what they may think or be told about their intelligence levels. An IQ is just a label that can always be changed, this can be done by having a positive attitude, by working hard for grades and learning new learning skills to improve academics.…

Looking back on the events where I fell into inevitable failure, nothing stands out to me more than the time I nearly failed pre-algebra in middle school. To be honest, while that awkward 7th grade me focused more on getting others to know my name, I wasn't focusing on the workload or taking notes in class and we all know what happens next. F's, F's, and more F's smacked me in my face, but of course I didn't have any regard of it. Instead I was trying to be popular (which you and I both know wasn't going to happen), and pretending to be someone else. This could be characterized as many small fails inside one, humongous fail.…
