Why is the Governess the only one to see ghost appear to her? Why not the others? Is what happened to her (The Governess) supposed to be her fate? What if she could live better with the kids (Miles and Flora) she was given the responsibility to educate? Now, should we confirm that the good and evil are meant to be together? The light and the darkness are two completely different things that it is very ambiguous to state that they are always together. However, we could still say that they work in pair. In The Turn of the Screw, good and evil stand together. The mystery stays predominant and the characters are as enigmatic on their past as they are on what is going on in the house. Throughout the play, our certainties are most of the time shaken; we come to realize that at the end of the play there is no clear answer that we get, so it is up to us to admit that the Governess may or may not be mentally strange. The subtle play of lights was creating a feeling of being lost in the shadows of a mysterious place like being lost in the forest during the night. There is no or poor light in the background, actors are coming out of nowhere. Why does the Production team choose to do so? The dark background generates doubt in the mind of the audience. They experience the sensation of being in a gloomy atmosphere, kind of a dark room with a dying fireplace during the winter time.
In addition to that, the costumes are also significant when talking about good and evil in The Turn of the Screw. The Production team fulfills the Playwright vision by choosing costumes that reflect the darkness.. Wearing black clothes doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s all about darkness but in this scenario, the choice of costumes color is oriented to create an unusual feeling in the. Thus, the chosen black color of costumes prompts the spectator to directly think of
