Turlock High School

At Turlock High School, teenagers are at risk everyday, because of what the food they eat is doing to them. Most teens try to eat healthy, but fail to do so. Most of the teens at THS eat school lunch here, and wish they didn’t. This leaves them to buy fast food, or bring it from home. Even though many try to eat healthy, it’s not enough. There is only one solution to this problem. The school lunch should be replaced, and exchanged with fresh food, cooked from scratch. At Turlock High, teens’ eating habits is not too good. Most people surveyed ate lunch at school. Most people kind of wish they didn’t. The lunch is gross, processed, and full of unnecessary additives and preservatives. The food in school should not be full of ingredients that people can hardly pronounce. Teens need good wholesome food, that makes them feel good, not feeling sick. Teens learn more when they have a good lunch. “If you’re feeling sluggish, eating even a small lunch can renew your energy and help you feel refreshed and ready to take on the next several hours.”(Schuna). The lunch at school now should be permanently removed, and should be exchanged with fresh food, that’s cooked from scratch. Changing the lunch at school would solve so many solutions. Teens wouldn’t have to settle for fast food, because of the good, tasty, and fresh food that could be served to them everyday. The new lunch system would encourage teens to eat at school. The food would be wholesome, tasty, and very healthy. “Schools in Berkeley, for example, continue to us U.S.D.A. commodities, but cook food from scratch, and have added organic fruits and vegetables from area farms” (Waters). Some schools have already gone this route, and we should do the same.
