The N word has a long history in the united states. It was introduced to berate the slaves. It is a word that is filled with contempt, disdain and disrespect. By using that word, the captors stripped the slaves of their human status and made their station lower than that of mules and dogs.
For over 500 years, that label was forced upon all black people in the United States, just as, a rapist forces his prey. A man woman or child could be called that ugly word and then they were expected to answer to it; or suffer the consequences.
The N word has condoned lynchings, justified beatings and aided and abetted murders. It was the use of that word that allowed the brutal beating and murder of Emit Till, it was the use of that word that precipitated the Montgomery Church Bombings. Some only whisper it behind closed doors, like the dirty little secret that it is. Some have decided to embrace it and change the meaning, they call it a term of endearment. Some have declared it dead, and given it a ceremonial funeral. And yet others have decided to ignore the stigma attached to that word and now use it in causal communications with their peers. This multitude of half hearted insufficient efforts makes the Black community behave like a schizophrenic. On one hand, some throw the word around like saying; have a nice day, and on the other hand the entire black community is offended and outraged when the word is used in a context in which we do not
