Tupac Shakur Research Paper

On Saturday September 7th, 1996, at 11:15 p.m. Pacific standard time, American hip hop artist Tupac Shakur was fatally wounded at the age of 25 years old due to a drive-by shooting during a stop at a red light in Las Vegas. He was struck by four .40 caliber rounds; two in the chest, one in the arm and one in the thigh. (Staff, 1996) He died six days later from a respiratory failure which led to cardiac arrest after the removal of his right lung in the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. However, when faced with the facts of the situation, it was likely just the simplest explanation which is correct. Shakur’s crew dealt a humiliating blow to a Crips member, someone who’s a known killer, in a gang of known killers. He beat up a killer, and then got killed. These are people who fight violence with violence, and these gangs are essentially professionals that can pull off large scale crimes without police involvement or lingering evidence. Shakur’s career had a huge amount of potential, he had (and still has) a substantial following as well as such an outspoken personality and a powerful demeanor. Believing that he would just stop his career during its prime and go into hiding for no specific reason requires the facts to be pushed to their absolute limits, as well as completely baseless conjecture. Based on the events that happened that night, a lot of seemingly suspicious events happened in sequence, but instead of thinking it as someone set up all these things to happen, it’s more likely that the security being shifted around was due to a combination of miscommunications, lack of foresight and understanding in terms of Shakur's ongoing feuds and the true extent of the threat he was faced with that night. This was a planned attack by Crips member on a high profile Bloods member, so even beyond the feud due to the robbing and subsequent brawl, there was a premeditated reason for the Crips to attack Shakur and his posse. The attack was brief and direct, a drive-by shooting, which makes it hard for the police to track down exactly who was behind the attack, and those who participated in the attack likely knew what they were doing and planned it in a way that would leave minimal evidence.
