Tupac Shakur Leadership Style

Tupac Amaru Shakur was a great leader. Although not all would agree with me, he has more influence over people than anyone else of his time. Even though he has been gone for almost ten years, his music and quotes can still be found among today’s top artist. I honestly believe that if he was still alive today that he would have more fans than some of these other rappers. Tupac had many different traits of a great leader. He was autocratic, entrepreneurial, and charismatic which are all types and styles of leaders.
I think Tupac was an autocratic leader because of his actions. The definition of an autocratic leader is a task-oriented leader who retains most of the authority for himself or herself and is not generally concerned with group members’ attitudes toward decisions (DuBrin, 2012). Tupac did not have group members, but he had fans and critics. He did not care what the critics had to say about what he wanted to do. As a solo artist had retained all the authority for himself. From what I read, when he decided to do something he did it, which is a trait of an autocratic leader. He told people what to do and got involved in the details of all his projects from music to movies.

Out of all the leadership styles, Tupac was at most a charismatic leader. He words always had depth and meaning. When he gave interviews on his opinions even if you did not agree with them. He was a master of the words and you could tell that he was very intelligent. One of his most loyal fans is the great Nikki Giovanni, who loves Tupac so much that she wrote a book of poems for him.
