Most people know virtually nothing about almost every possible topic, and it could be easily included that most people don't know the fact that there are merely 200 plant species in the tundra, Earth's coldest terrain. The tundra is not what most people believe it is, for reasons such as misinformation, disbelief (the tundra is that amazing) and many more. First of all, there is higher biological production in water than on land (and there is life in the tundra), and second of all, the tundra is the only biome to have permafrost. Third of all, the frigidness prevents most flora and fauna from surviving. Animals other than lemmings include the Arctic tern, ermine, reindeer, mountain goat and musk ox. There is more biomass and, as stated in the introduction, more biological production, meaning procreation or reproduction, in water than on land. Vegetation is also quite scarce, though not as much so as animal populations. Flora only blooms for days to weeks, but at a greater magnitude. This may not be very interesting, captivating, astounding or even attention-grabbing to most, but there is more than what many individuals consider life in the tundra. Microbes have been found in the tundra ice, and these are the only life forms to be able to survive there. That is quite a bit less of a boring fact, and you are probably much more interested in the tundra (or at least hopefully you are).
It isn't just the life in the tundra that has so much depth. The hallmarks of this biome are (usually) precipitation and cold. Warm water moves from the Caribbean Sea to Scandinavia, causing Scandinavia to be too warm (though not warm at all) to be a tundra. One city in Finland is not affected enough by this and, therefore, is a tundra. Finally, Alaska, despite being a tundra, has a high population (and seems to boast about it at times), and was purchased by the U.S. The harsh conditions of the tundra deters many people from moving to one or even visiting one, but why not you? Tundras include Northern Canada, the Arctic Archipelago, Alaska, Siberia, Svalbard, and many others. The warmest tundra that has yet been discovered is in Finland. Mountain devotees, climbers and hobbyists will want to travel to an alpine tundra, and will not have to worry about the frigidity, not because the alpine tundra is not cold, but because they have climbed mountains.
