Tuition Refund Appeal Case Study

Decent Essays
I withdrew from the courses at the University of Minnesota. I have submitted a Tuition Refund Appeal in the hopes of receiving a refund on tuition. If the appeal committee denies my appeal, I will be able to earn enough to pay the tuition. I will be able to earn enough to pay the tuition if I work 40 hours a week for $10 an hour for 4 months and 1 week.

I’m so sorry. I wanted so badly to do the right thing. I wanted to go to school, reapply to Middlebury, and put failing out behind me. Both of you have tried to help me so many times and I have been unable to rise to the occasion. I am so sorry for everything. I have asked myself why I choose failure time and time again and, unfortunately for all of us, I don’t have a good answer for you.

This experience didn't truly shape my goals in life until our campus suffered an immense tragedy. One of our students, a sophomore, took her own life. It hit both students and faculty hard and for almost a month, our school’s administration did nothing to acknowledge the loss we had all suffered. It was during this time that I faced with several rattled students looking to me for emotional support and guidance.…

GROWING UP Growing up, I didn’t have many luxuries, if any. The best thing I had was being a 5 minute walk away from a convenience store. The house I grew up in was infested with cockroaches and was falling apart within the walls. The dining room was so small, some of us had to eat on the floor. We only had three bedrooms, so my three younger siblings had to sleep in the living room.…

The day we expected to get our assignments back, I felt calm and confident. When I received my paper and saw what my grade was and the comments my teachers made, my whole mood changed. The grade and the remarks were nothing of what I expected, and the grade was well below what I normally score. After this assignment I started to give up because I did not think I would ever do as good and that my writing, in fact, did not improve at all, but Mrs. Moore told me not give up and to keep trying. The talk we had made me realize that I need to learn from this experience and continue to work hard and do my absolute best.…

My experience in the Mary Poppins cast has been probably one of the best things to happen to me so far in my life. At my old school in 10th grade I was in theatre, then the following year I was bullied out, and I desperately missed theatre. It was my life, I enjoy it so much and it is such a part of me. So coming here and deciding to audition on just the second day of school was a really big deal for me. I was absolutely terrified to, but I stuck through and did it anyways, and I am so happy that I did.…

Middle school can be an odd and rough time for kids, as they change from being sheltered youth to responsible young adults. I failed miserably at handling that transition. The classes taught in middle school were supposed to be easy, especially now that I look in retrospect. Yet, I regularly brought home B’s and low A’s, at best, on my report card. I had barely challenged myself in middle school, if at all.…

To all the doctors, teachers, peers, and family members who didn’t believe I would amount to greatness, thank you. When I was young, I didn’t understand why school seemed more challenging for me than it did for everyone else. I couldn’t discern why I was unable to distinguish my right from my left no matter how many times my teacher sighed and told me it was simple or why I could complete math problems perfectly then copy my answer wrong between the work area and the answer line.…

My grades this past year were and are not indicative of who I am as a student, or as a person in general. My junior year of high school, I decided to do PSEO, thinking it was an easy way to get credits for both high school and college. I did not realize the struggle I was going to have just trying to be accountable for myself during my senior year. My daily schedule consisted of work, soccer, managing the high school boy’s hockey team, volunteer work, spending time with my high school friends and taking college courses. I took the most challenging classes through Anoka-Ramsey Community College, thinking that like high school these would be the best for me.…

Unlike many of my peers, my life story is slightly different. Many of my peers share the story of living in a single parent home, being homeless, violence, and poverty. However, in my case, living in a two parent household is strange to hear about to my peers. For me, living in a two parent household means more work because of my desire to receive a full scholarship. Upon my research, I noticed that many of my older peers would receive better college financial opportunities because of their life experiences.…

My journey begins with how language affected my life. It all starts off with a conversation that my counselor and I had which changed my life in a matter of seconds due to a couple of comments that were made. Which were “you will be the most successful person in your class” and “You were a floater throughout your high school career” Hearing those statements said changed my life in a matter of seconds because of how affective language can be. Language has affected me in many ways such as a simple conversation my counselor and I had which was how the school had failed me, the positive and negative affect on how a couple of comments changed my life and how the conflict changed my perspective on the counselor and the school.…
