Tuition Reduction Scholarship

Decent Essays
I grew up in a middle-class family in a small Vietnamese town and receiving a tuition reduction scholarship would open the door for me to approach an advanced education in Japan in general and in APU in particular. Not only would it alleviate my parents' financial worries but it would also facilitate my full concentration on university studies. This scholarship represents that I am worthy and capable of performing on an international stage. Furthermore, it will motivate me to accomplish my goal of becoming a cultural anthropologist.
I have had less opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities in my hometown, which puts me at a disadvantage compared to other applicants, but I am looking forward to being a part of the regional exchange

I play on the women's collegiate softball team at St. Thomas University. I have been playing softball since I could walk and, along with every other athlete, my dream is to play on the biggest and brightest stage possible. For softball that is the NCAA College World Series. Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to make millions of dollars playing professional softball like many other professional athletes. This is it for me because college is the highest level of softball I will play in my life and I don't want to settle at a school where I know my athletic ability and hard work could get me so much further.…

What would you buy with 20,000 dollars? Maybe a new car, or a new TV, or a new computer, or a new cell phone, or even new clothes. In reality, 20,000 dollars can buy a lot of things, however, you can only buy a year of college tuition with 20,000 dollars. Isn’t that crazy? Since 1980, tuition costs at colleges and universities has risen to 757 percent (Cecillia Barr).…

The person investing in tuition plans may purchase tuition credits or certificates on behalf of a designated beneficiary. Otherwise a person may make contributions to an account which has been set up for meeting the qualified higher education expenses of the beneficiary account. The program must accept cash contributions. For example, a program that agrees to accept property as contribution is not a qualified program under Section 529. For a program to be treated as qualified program it must provide separate accounting for each designated beneficiary, the contributor/beneficiary must not direct the investment of contributions, the interest in the program cannot be used as a security for a loan, and the program should not accept contributions in excess of what is required to provide for qualified educational cost.…

Some of the options available in exchange for these scholarships are recycling1, helping friends and family quit smoking2, or even just making a card for someone in your community to show your appreciation3. There are several ways I intend on cutting the costs of college expenses. One way is attending community college instead of a university to attain my associate’s degree. I am also living in my parent’s home as I work towards my associate’s and will possibly live with them when I work on my bachelor’s degree, depending on if I attend The Ohio State University…

As the United States’ economy get worse, an increasing amount of college students are feeling the stress of financial problems upon entering college. However, college students continue to take out loans and put themselves in debt. Some possible solutions for decreasing student debt include improving the affordability of college, modifying the national education budget, and reducing the interest rate on student loans. The first possible solution for decreasing student debt is improving the affordability of college. According to Shari Held, “On a moderate budget, the average cost of the 2015-2016 school year at an in-state public college came out to $24,000, and a year at a private school set students back $48,000” (Held).…

In Dicken’s time only the rich and the wealthy had the privilege to go to university. Is that not increasingly becoming the truth again? While university has become more accessible for people in the later 20th century, we are slowly reverting back to university only being affordable to a select few. Even just a generation ago many people could afford the opportunity to go to university, but for the current generation university is becoming increasingly inaccessible due to rising costs, especially tuition. If we are to avoid increasing social and economic inequality and instead wish to maximize everyone’s opportunity to be prosperous and to realize their potential, it is critical for us to preserve fair and open access to a university through…
