In Tuesdays with Morrie, written by Mitch Albom, Mitch grows throughout the book. At the beginning of the book Mitch is very involved in his work and is making a lot of money but he is missing something in life; he is unhappy and very self-absorbed. Mitch sees online that his old Professor Morrie whom he was very close with is sick and he decides to visit him. As Morries’ death is approaching Mitch begins to visit him more often. During these visits Mitch gains a lot from Morrie. Morrie begins to teach Mitch the things that matter most in life and he leaves Mitch with everlasting impressions. Morrie tells Mitch, “So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they’re busy doing things they think are important. This is because they are chasing the wrong things”(43.) This quote describes Mitch before he reconnects with his professor Morrie. By the time he attends his funeral he has changed into a new person. Week by week as Mitch visits Morrie he begins to see different parts of Morries body failing to work. Morrie always tells him that the world is a great place, he should live life to the fullest, and he should appreciate everything the world has to offer. Mitch calls Morrie when he finds out he is sick and Morrie tells him about the concept of death saying, "I have not settled on one yet… However this is too harmonious grand and overwhelming universe to believe that it's all an accident" (196.) Mitch sees that Morrie is about to die and he is still appreciating his life and the world every day. Mitch realizes that the world is a present and he should enjoy everything it has to offer.
