9. I have had an experience like that patient did where she just wanted people to notice her (109). Last year I would go to my classes and club meetings and people wouldn’t notice me very much. People wouldn’t really talk to me. I felt kind of invisible. I don’t feel like everyone is noticed at Lone Peak. It seems like there are lots of people who are just alone because they don’t fit into any of the cliques. There are lots of people who are sad and feel lonely, and I think that that is because they don’t feel noticed. 5. Morrie’s theory of detachment is that you have to go through something completely in order to get over it. The effect of the curtain coming down on childhood for Mitch was that he moved on from his dream of being a musician and got a degree in journalism. I don’t think, and I hope, that this will never happen to me. I want to be childlike forever. I don’t think that it is possible to be PETER PAN in contemporary society. In Tuesdays with Morrie, it talks about a wave. That wave is upset because it is going to get to the shore and crash down. A second wave comes and tells him not to be upset because he is not one wave; he is part of the ocean (179). We are all just part of society. We cannot change anything. The thing that you should work towards the most in life is happiness. There is nothing more important than being happy. You aren’t really living if you don’t have happiness. It isn’t possible to be happy one hundred percent of the time, but you should have happiness. You should help other people be happy, because they deserve to be happy too, and the satisfaction of helping other people can make you happy. 12. To “live” means to wake up every morning, to experience life to its fullest, and to stay true to your values and what you stand for. There are many things that can contribute to the quality of life, for example, love, knowledge, hatred, war, family, and anything else that can alter the experience or values of life. In the film The Giver there seemed to be a low value placed on human life because of sameness. Everyone was doing the same thing everyday.…

Morrie is not about money even when he got it he kept everything the same never getting the newest and best things he can. According to Morrie “We put our values in the wrong things. And it leads to very disillusioned lives…” (Albom 124). Susan Wolf, a professor at The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, wrote Meaning in Life and Why It Matters to try to figure out why one’s life has meaning. She presents three different views to address the question of whether or not someone exhibits a meaningful life. Wolf presents what is called the fulfillment view, the larger-than-oneself view, and the bipartite view, however each view raises a problem that is sufficient enough to say that it does not answer the question presented before. As a result, she creates her own view on the meaning of life and it is called the fitting fulfillment view. It is a fairly sound argument; however, many people have tried to present an argument against it.…

Let me start off by defining what an aphorism is, an aphorism is a true statement intended to share a universal truth (Google.com). In Tuesdays With Morrie, Morrie was a professor who was diagnosed with ALS. This is a terminal disease that attacks a person 's nervous system, slowly making parts of the victim 's body inoperable. While he is dying, an old student of his, Mitch, visits Morrie every Tuesday. Morrie shares a lot of aphorisms with him that taught Mitch Albom, and myself, how to live a better life.…

A Response to Question 1, Section 1: The Meaning of Life: Wolf vs. Taylor Both Richard Taylor and Susan Wolf understand the difficulty of answering the question, “What is the meaning of life?” Taylor begins his “The Meaning of Life” by saying that we do not even understand what the question means to then answer it, and Wolf claims in her own “The Meanings of Lives” that the question is embarrassing to ask because, as Taylor asserts, we really do not understand what is being asked here. Taylor proposes, then, the best way to answer this is to ask what makes for a meaningless life, and perhaps from this comparison, we can find some answers to the original question. Wolf appreciates Taylor’s approach as she also adopts his method, and even though…

By doing all of this we are acknowledging the fact that there is more to the good life than the pursuit of simple happiness (Smith 2013).This article, “There’s More to Life Than Being Happy”, written by Emily Esfahani Smith, was a great article to help people realize that although being happy is a very important aspect of life, it is not the most important. Happiness is an emotion that comes and goes. The meaning of life is something that stays forever. Finding meaning helps fight difficult and horrible experiences. Even though something is bad at the moment because a person has meaning to life or has found meaning to life, the struggle will be easier to overcome.…

Life is a very broad, difficult topic to speak about. Often times, people have conflicting thoughts on what they think the value of life is, what the point of life is, or what life is really supposed to mean. Should it be based off of materialistic possessions? Should who a person is or what they do with their life define them? Or should humans simply live as they desire and not put a price tag on another person until after they are dead?…

We are constantly striving to search for the purpose and meaning of the things we do in our everyday lives. I believe we need reason and purpose in order to do anything, just how some need a reason or reasons to keep living, or their lives may become “meaningless”. I believe the meaning of life is to find what is true to you by using your own personal experiences and dreams. Everything you do brings meaning, even if it brings you happiness or sadness or even tragic. Either the experience is good or bad, it still has…
