Tuesday Of The Other June “Now, Junie, if anyone ever bothers you -- “I walk away, run away, come on home as fast as my feet will take me,” June recited. June is a young girl who lives with her over-protective mother, April, in a small apartment. June consistently gets bullied from a girl who attends the same swimming class as she does. However, June prefers not to involve her mother, but rather cope with it herself. Her mother always tells her to “... keep your sweet self out of fighting and all that bad stuff.” June, from the story “Tuesday of the Other June” by Norma Fox Mazer is brave, loving, and dishonest for the sake of her mother. “My arms were covered with bruises. When my mother noticed, I made up a story about tripping on the …show more content…
“No,” I said again, because it felt so good to say it. “No, no, no, no.” “I leaned toward the Other June and put my finger against her chest.” June was also brave when she did not wake her mother up in the middle of the night when she imagined “robbers, thieves, and murderers, creeping slowly...slowly...slowly toward my bed.” This shows that she is brave because even though June was horrified, she ‘stuffed her hand into her mouth’ to keep her from screaming. “I wanted to be rich and take care of her. She worked too hard. Someday, I said, I’ll buy you a real house, and you’ll never work in a pot factory again.” This shows the great love and care June feels towards her mother and the special bonding they share. June always wants her mother to be happy. She tries to help her mother out with housework whenever she can and sings songs with her in the kitchen. “In the morning we sang in the kitchen. Bill Grogan’s goat! Was feelin’ fine! Ate three red shirts, right off the line!” “I made sandwiches for our lunches, she made pancakes for breakfast.” To summarize, June and her mother enjoyed a special and inspiring relationship which helped them to successfully overcome many of the difficulties they faced along the way being only the two of them, as a single mother and her daughter. I thought June was brave, loving, and dishonest for the sake of her mom throughout the
