GEMS is a group with 6 classmate members. We knew each other from previous classes. I have worked before in a group with Laura. The group process was stated by Prof Victoria Gray. I will use Five Stages of Group Development - Tuckman to explain the process of my group.
After we formed the group, we started the forming stage. According to Tuckman (1965), “in the Forming stage, personal relations are characterized by dependence. Group members rely on safe, patterned behavior and look to the group leader for guidance and direction. Group members have a desire for acceptance by the group and a need to know that the group is safe”. At the first meeting, we agreed to open a WhatsApp chat. Because we are working or doing our practicum in different hours, it is the best way to communicate. Group member exchanged telephone numbers. The chat worked properly. Also, we decided

This was 3rd stage, “norming stage, interpersonal relations are characterized by cohesion. Group members are engaged in active acknowledgment of all members’ contributions, community building and maintenance, and solving of group issues” (Tuckman, 1965). Our first group idea was to work with school population because group members mostly work with children and adolescents. We declined the idea because other groups had the same population target. When it was time to decide the group’s theme, we had 2 options: wives with incarcerated spouses or wives with spouses facing deportation. We chose the first option and each group member had to develop their own personal story. Mostly, these wives didn’t have support because their partners were the head of household. All this group members have children and were struggling with financial issues, job hunting, and transportation to jail and food issues. Each member needed to build up their own story based on the group’s

The main challenge of this group situation is that there was a sudden rise of conflict among members at the beginning to mid phase of the project. This resulted the possible development of groupthink (Janis, 2008). As a leader in this situation, I would firstly feel lousy and disappointed in myself that I didn’t take note of group’s division and how the meeting could be more inclusive of everyone’s opinion (Chadha, 2016). However, at that point, I would also probably feel confused but yet curious as to why it was suddenly voiced out, hence thought that I should facilitate to explicit the thoughts and feelings of each member to better understand as well.…

The Harvest follows three of the 400,000 plus children that work in the American fields. Each one of these children were introduced to the migrant lifestyle at a very young age. Some do not even remember how young they were when they started in the fields, like 12 year old Zulema. It was passed down to these children like their parents had it passed down to them and so on. It’s a perpetual cycle of generations, partly because it is all they know and also due to the values instilled in them.…

Explanation of Concept: Tuckman’s five stage model of group development that represents how Tuckman observed on how groups and teams become cohesive. There are fives stages in Tuckman’s model, which are forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. Storming is the part in the process of developing that is filled with conflict, disagreements, and tension between members of the group or team. Application of Concept: The clip I shows emphasizes how a team, MacElroy and Michaels, are currently in their storming phase. It is noticeable in their resistance to agree on a song, or, in Michael’s case, be willing to consider a different song, which can be viewed as a procedural disagreement, as they need the song to perform.…

When developing a therapeutic working group setting an agenda should be made as a way to transition throughout the stages of sessions for those who live in an institutional group setting (Jacobs, Schimmel, Masson, & Harvill, n.dp.36). To develop a positive group setting, we look to how a group session therapy is divided in to three different stages. Stage one, or the beginning stage can last for a few minutes, to several different sessions. It is during the beginning stage of therapy that the member develops a purpose of the therapy group, develop comfort levels, and are able to share their individual feelings (Jacobs, Schimmel, Masson, & Harvill, n.dp.36). it is during this first stage that the leader must provide just enough structure to create a group that stays on task throughout the sessions.…

Having started the People and Organization module, in the first week of seminar, forming a group was necessary, as it was a discussion based activity, but unknowingly it helped me form my group for the Junction Hotel presentation. The aim behind this piece of writing is to reflect upon the process and the formation of my group. Reflection is ‘... a form of mental processing with a purpose and/or anticipated outcome that is applied to relatively complex or unstructured ideas for which there is not an obvious solution’. (Moon 1999 pg.23). Moon (1999) also states that we reflect for many reasons; important reasons being to critically review our behavior and that of others.…

Week 2 Application Assignment: Group Dynamics and Group Stages In 1965, Bruce Tuckman developed one of the most influential models of “the developmental stages in a small group” (Bonebright, 2010, p. 111). It is a four stage model in which each stage needed to be completed in order to reach optimum group functioning. These stages were dubbed “forming”, “storming”, “norming”, “performing”. Later in 1977, he and Mary Ann Conover Jensen added “adjourning” as a fifth stage in his model (Bonebright, 2010).…
