Tuckman Model Of Group Analysis

As the semester draws to a close, I reluctantly write my final paper for my favorite class of my first ever semester here at George Mason University. For this paper I will discus how my peers and I worked together through out the Deliberative Dialogue project. I’m going to use the Tuckman Model of Group Development because I believe I saw my group transition through these stages more prominently. The Forming Stage, or Stage #1, began the day we got our group assignments and were allowed to get together for the first time. Paul went up and randomly selected our topic. Since we all already knew each other and were pretty familiar and comfortable we didn’t really have to waste time introducing or getting to know one another. Spending almost …show more content…
Ultimately we weren’t a very organized group when it came to saying who was doing what exactly but that didn’t hurt us. We just sort of shelved off roles as they came up. In the beginning Isaac, Paul and Matt did research while Husna and I led a discussion on how to lay the project out. We also commented on what we felt were good points to cover from each article or website that the boys found. No one was ordered to do anything in our group; we all were great about stepping up and volunteering. That’s mainly because I think we all enjoyed this type of work and were interested in the topic once we began digging. Isaac volunteered to write up the business letter on his own and Matt put together the basic slide show while we all talked about how to go about the skit. I felt like our group was able to work very effectively together. Everyone was very considerate. For example, for the skit, we had to use/drink milk. But since I am lactose intolerant I was unable to drink it. The whole group was concerned if I could even be around milk incase it was a severe allergy. Obviously that’s not the case but I felt content knowing they were considering things that I had never discussed with them before. Everyone was really good about contributing his or her opinions and work. No one stood out to be too quiet or too bossy. There was no level of nonparticipation from

My practicum has gotten very busy and interesting these last few weeks I have started vigorously working in the group setting with the clients and even making some decisions on clients transitioning into different levels of care. Working with women really has help me to acquire patients, empathy, and understanding. Most of these women have gone through very traumatic experiences in their past and they bring those issues behaviors they developed to cop into Group . Therefore learning group structure and norms have been really helpful and very important. According to Tuckman’s theory he articulated four stages of group development, which he labeled forming, storming, norming, and performing(Delucia-Waack, 2004).…

Also did the calendar for my team. I didn’t help to get the shots because I was absent the day they choose what images to put in the clip. I didn’t experience any issues with my group because everyone did what they had to do even if we played around for a while. The only challenges we faced was when we got our feedback and seen that we weren’t doing that good. And we were worried about what we had to change to make it better.…

This helped me not to focus on the negative things, which were small and of minor importances. I think the week was worth it as I grew and developed so much as person. I was able to start valuable relationships with the people there. I felt like the work that I did was more than just work and made a lasting impact. There was plenty of work to do during the week and everyone had an enjoyable time serving as a group.…

group was a groupthink victim partly due to the actions of the leaders. Lumsden, Lumsden and Wiethoff (2010 p. 284) add that when the leader pushes the group toward consensus, without seeking input or alternative perspectives, members quickly learn that their qualms about the group’s direction are not to be voiced. This student witnessed this revelation with regards to this student’s team. In hindsight, this student’s team needed to believe it was ONE well-oiled unit.…

Being a big group there wasn’t much work for everyone to do, but collectively we worked well in smaller groups to come up with a great open letter to Indiana State University. I would give all my group members an A for working well together even though our group size was very hard to work with. Everyone responded to emails and met accordingly. Everyone tried their hardest to make it to meetings and interviews, and because of that I think the group did well together. We all truly agreed that sexual assault among college students is an issue that requires action.…

We as a group were able to complete the task but getting to the finish was very difficult. At first getting everyone to cooperate and do work willingly was one of my major challenges. It would be hard to get them to do certain tasks and I found it hard to get everyone together as everyone had different ideas. Especially since the different sections of creating a video are separated into three categories: camera, editing, and…

I am aware that my possible contempt or bias is due to the fact that I like well-structured activities, but I expect that there should be some evidence of a direction or goal for the group in order to facilitate movement. My group, Challenger, was the intro/conclusion group for super-group B where we discussed the issue of sexual assault. Overall, I am fairly pleased with the way my group performed in the deliberation, but obviously there is room for improvement amongst all the members of my group. 1. The intro was pretty basic and vanilla, but the statistics were well researched and the amount of “ums” and “likes” were significantly increased. Visuals were minimal and non-disruptive.…

During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

Having started the People and Organization module, in the first week of seminar, forming a group was necessary, as it was a discussion based activity, but unknowingly it helped me form my group for the Junction Hotel presentation. The aim behind this piece of writing is to reflect upon the process and the formation of my group. Reflection is ‘... a form of mental processing with a purpose and/or anticipated outcome that is applied to relatively complex or unstructured ideas for which there is not an obvious solution’. (Moon 1999 pg.23). Moon (1999) also states that we reflect for many reasons; important reasons being to critically review our behavior and that of others.…

Reflective Report This grant writing class has been intense, but I have learned a lot through the process. My favorite part of this class was reviewing the other proposals and reflecting on how each group completed the sections. The first thing I noticed while reading others proposal was how important it is to establish a buy-in for the reader. The proposals that didn’t have a buy-in I wasn’t interested in reading.…

We all tried, but I think some of us took the project more seriously than others. Kevin was always late to our meetings event though when we created the team contract we agreed to be punctual unless there was an emergency. I doubt that there was an emergency every single week when we met. I think Amy and myself did most of the work, we had to assign work for Kevin and Shaohui to do otherwise they would not take the initiative to do something unless we asked them to do it which was frustrating because Kevin was supposed to be the project manager and it was his responsibility to make sure that we were doing our part and being the leader of the team. I am not saying that it was all his responsibility because we are all adults and can do our part, but what I am saying is that they were not behaving as adults.…

Reflection Paper II Throughout my college experience here in the Carroll School of Management, group work and the ability to work well with others has been emphasized greatly. This makes sense, because in a professional environment, the ability to communicate, listen and contribute within a group leads to success and the achievement of goals. However, none have gone on as long as this project, making it a more realistic example of working on a team. Junior year of college is definitely a crazy time, as we are forced to balance heavy workloads with extracurriculars and recruiting.…

As Robbins & Judge (2009) note, group decision making is often more time consuming than individual decision making, and can open the door to the phenomena of groupthink and groupshift, which can degrade a group’s ability to objectively arrive at a quality solution (p. 302-304).The nominal group technique, the use of electronic meetings, and the inclusion of the idea of covenant in forming groups are several tools available to help mitigate some potential pitfalls of the group decision making process. Nominal Group Technique The nominal group technique allows individuals come up with their own ideas…
