Tuck Everlasting: Similarities Between Book And Movie

Books and movies almost always seem to be noticeably different. Whether it is a variation of the storyline, a change in the behavior and tendencies of a character, or complete new scenes added in, you can tell. In Tuck Everlasting, this is very much the case. All three of these things happen. You don’t even have to look closely to see the glaring differences. This is because unlike some cases, in Tuck Everlasting, important features like age, physical characteristics, backstories, and temperaments are changed to adjust the viewer’s point of view. While the general plot of family, friendship, and love stay the same, the novel and the film, though sharing some similarities, have many variations and changes. Novels tend to use a lot of symbolism to convey both what choices a character should make and add to the story. Whether this symbolism persuades a reader to think a certain way, consciously or unconsciously, or just make the plot more interesting, it can make a big difference in the book. The biggest form of symbolism in Tuck Everlasting the novel is the toad. He shows up frequently, and plays the role of a character. Winnie talks to him when she is deciding …show more content…
While they may have changes, the plot tends to stay similar to that of the book, teaching the same lesson. In both the novel and the film, the storyline stays pretty much the same. Winnie still goes into the woods, gets taken by the Tucks, and ultimately decides not to drink the magic water. The film just focuses more on her relationship. Moreover, the way they set the story up, the removal of the toad doesn’t change the plot. The story stays pretty much the same because they keep the meaning of it, the importance family, friendship, and love clear for you to see.
