Tub In Hunters In The Snow By Tobias Wolff

Character Analysis Tub is a like-able person who is treated poorly by his friends in the story "Hunters in the Snow" by Tobias Wolff. Tub is like-able because he is gullible and everyone seems to joke around with him. Tub is also a good friend even though his friends are not the nicest to him. "Frank, when you've got a friend it means you've always got someone on your side, no matter what. That's the way I feel about it anyway" said Tub. Tub seems to have poor luck because everything he does goes wrong. Don't take your friends for granted like Frank and Kenny didn't appreciate Tub as the great friend he once was to them. Tub is a very large man who seems to be out of shape and says he is on a diet. "He looks just like a beach ball with a hat on, doesn't he? Doesn't he, Frank?" Tub seems to also be clumsy. This is demonstrated in the first few paragraphs of the story. "You almost ran me down," Tub said. "You could've killed me." Tub also demonstrates how out of shape he was when he had a hard time keeping up with Kenny and Frank while they walked through the snow out hunting. Tub is the nicest guy in the group even though he shot Kenny. …show more content…
As a reader, when Kenny went on his little rant about hating things, you wanted him to just stop shooting things and act normal. Kenny seemed surprisingly reckless in the story from the beginning when he almost hit Tub to when he got shot. Kenny's recklessness was surprising because it seemed like he didn't have a care for any other individuals around him. Tobias Wolff wanted to get the reader to realize that you should not threaten others like Kenny threatened Tub by saying "I hate you" (170) and to respect your friends and embrace there

Gary Soto’s vivid imagery and religious allusions recreate an event where sin and guilt leads him to reflect upon his actions as a six-year-old child. In the beginning of A Summer Life, Gary Soto reveals that he has a religious background by quoting that “he knew enough about hell” and that he “was holy in almost every bone”. In addition to his religiously influenced statements, he also states “angels flopping”. The recurrence of allusions from the bible in the introductory passage emphasizes that Soto knew about God and therefore, the consequences of sin even at a young age.…

According to the article "Heeding the Call" by Diana Hildress I think Kenny is nicer then Byron because, over all hes a better person in general. First of all, Byron was a jerk to Kenny when they were breaking ice of the windows and byron kissed his reflection in the mirror. When he got stuck he at first thought it was fake, but when reliezing it was real he went in and got his parents straight away. He knew that if he was stuck byron would try to pour the waters in his eyes or ears to freeze them. Knowing that he still didnt want to do that to him.…

George Milton, a character from the book “Of Mice of Men” who in my opinion is a hero archetype. The hero archetype is a character who battles evil and helps the nature of good. He fits this archetype well because throughout the whole book he helps Lennie and kinda tries to lead him to the right path. He watches over Lennie and tries to keep him out of trouble. I choose this character because he seemed nice and different than other characters.…

Through various differences and changes within medium, David Foster Wallace’s original graduation commencement speech sends a completely message to that of the published book. This notion is due to how the published book “This is water” by the Little, Brown, and Company changed, removed, and added numerous word or sentences that inherently change the original meaning David Foster Wallace initially delivered. In David Foster Wallace’s original speech, he attempts to advice his audience to think about others and different possibilities of the countless things around one-self while not seeing yourself as the center of the universe. This idea is perpetuated throughout Wallace’s speech which is complimented by how he clearly shows that he is open to the idea of most things by using non-specific or non-aggressive…

There is a deeper meaning to the guns in this story, and they are a big part into the transition into the second half of the story. In my mind, the guns symbolized anger at themselves and at each other. Like when Kenny said "I hate that dog"(170) and ended up shooting the dog, I believe he was expressing his anger at not getting his deer for the year as well as doing what the farmer had asked him to do. When Tub shot Kenny with his rifle, Tub may have been a little motivated by his feelings towards Kenny, because Frank and Tub had told each other that neither really liked Kenny all that well. The guns also fit in with the symbolism of the deer, they were going to use the guns to basically "kill" their flaws but in turn ended up using them on each other.…

As my Mathematics professor always says, “Helping one person might not change the whole world, but it could change the world for one person.” For some people who live in the third world countries such as Ethiopia and Sudan, even a few dollars or a cup of water is a great help. However, in today’s society, most people only care about themselves and forget to think of others in need. Less and less people are willing to help others. Moreover, some people once accepted help, but they forget that many are like them that need help.…
