Opportunity is a rare moment which does not present itself as much as we may long for its purpose. Over the years, I have been living the same routine of school, homework, and work. As a friend of mine once said, “no moment in time is so good that you should have to live it twice”. I wanted to take more risk even if it meant taking more time. Time will eventually create opportunities for self-growth and reflection. Trying new things has allowed me to secure independence, travel, and obtain my first job.

A first job has to be one of the most life changing experience for adolescents as they strive towards adulthood. It has prepared me to take on certain roles and responsibilities that only come with one’s ability to earn wages. It was not long until I would have aimed for promotion when working a full day at the local donut shop. Work has given me the chance to interact with customers making sure that they are happy, and in our best interest in each setting, it has allowed me to interact and gain better social, and problem-solving skills. I am utilizing those skills today in college and in setting priorities during my personal life. I learned to gain a different understanding of money, time and employee management while concurrently, getting a taste of adulthood. Whether it regards, getting to work on time or having to apply a little more effort in order to complete an assignment? The pride of earning a wage for an exchange of my labor provides a strong foundation to build more opportunity and growth.
