Truth Underground Analysis

I went to watch Truth Underground documentary which was screened in Charlotte film festival on September 30 at 2:20 P.M. The initial release of the documentary was on 2016 and it was directed by Gerret Warner. The documentary talks about the lives of three young poets who have problems such as poverty, discrimination, PTSD, and other problems. However, these three young people try to share with others their feelings and emotions using poetry as a method of communication. The first person was CJ who is a high school student and he grew up as a poor black male in North Carolina, Chapel Hill where most of the people there are rich and white. In addition, other people think he is rich just because he lives in Chapel Hill. However, he started to write poetry to convey, tell, and share his feelings and emotions with other people after he was advised by his high school teacher. The music that was played on the back while the characters reading their poetry made what the characters say more effective and more powerful. And the significance of the music that was played during the film was to make people feel bad and emotional in some way so they understand what other people are going through, which helped making the scene more effective. For example, when Kamaya was reading her poetry, which was very emotional and sad, and in the same time there was a sad music track being played. This made the documentary and what every character was saying more emotional and convincing to me. I believe that the documentary would not be as successful as it is if this kind of soundtrack was not played. Therefore, the soundtrack in this documentary played an important role in helping the main characters telling their feelings in a more effective and stronger
