Trust In Mean Girls, Julius Ceasar

Improved Essays
Our essential question was “How is trust is created or destroyed?” I would answer it by saying that trust is created or destroyed by the presence or lack of credibility. I came to this conclusion by comparing how in Mean Girls, Julius Caesar, and in real life how trust is earned and lost. Throughout our entire podcast, we saw that a common theme with trust in all three scenarios is the strong ability to rely on the other person. For example, Janis relies on Cady to betray The Plastics, until she loses her trust when she realizes she can no longer rely on her. In this conversation, I learned about myself how I value trust. I learned that without reliance, you can not have trust and how that pertains to relationships in my life. I was able to contribute an explanation as to how reliance and credibility are present in trust using explanations from Mean Girls and real life. A real life example I was able to bring in is how I have had friends before in my life who tend to make time for other people in their life but not me. For example, a friend I had once was constantly on her phone texting people, but whenever I texted her she would never respond. I tended to lose some of my trust in her since I could not rely on her to respond when I needed her to, and it made me question the integrity of our friendship. …show more content…
I thought that the line was meant to convey power, and make it seem as if the person saying it had authority over everyone else. In the play, the line is spoken by Caesar when Cassius asks him if Metellus’s brother can return after being banished. Caesar says this to show that he is devoted to not letting his brother back in Rome. Essentially, Caesar says he is stubborn and powerful and that begging will not convince him. Caesar uses this line to convey

Cassius inquired as to why was Caesar to be the lord when Brutus was pretty much as honorable and awesome as Caesar.it turns out Brutus was both a loyalist of Rome and a double crosser of Julius Caesar. What Caesar is saying is that he cannot be persuaded because he is of greater presence than the men trying to persuade him. Julius Caesar follows up on his opening statement with, ”If I could pray to move, prayers would move me,”(3.4.64). Caesar is practically saying that the only person who can persuade Caesar is Caesar. Although people generally believe they are persuaded by ideas that they have discovered, William Shakespeare’s historic tragedy, Julius Caesar illustrates that an individual’s thoughts are inevitably shaped by external factors. Persuasion and suggestion are rhetorical skills that play central roles in Julius Caesar, but they also demonstrates how individuals bend towards words they want to hear when faced with a difficult situation. The play cautions the dangers and powers of rhetoric as a tool for manipulation and reminds us how easily and completely an audience can be both won and lost in terms of persuasion. In the few early scenes we are able to see Cassius promoting his own views upon Brutus.…

He reminded the people that Caesar would have ruined Rome, become a tyrant and would have enslaved everyone, he said "had you rather Caesar were living, and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead?". He says this as a rhetorical question: it has quite an obvious answer but probably would have been false anyway. Brutus says that last quote like it is fact and that it will happen. The fact makes it seem more real.…
