Known for specializing in innovative construction, the Truss Construction Shop has invested heavily in engineering technology that reduces the costs of their products. In addition to specializing in innovative construction, Truss Construction Shop also manufactures low cost houses that are sold primarily in overseas markets. Being a leader in innovation, Truss Construction Shop is always looking for new ways in engineering to improve productivity and reduce company costs. During one of the shop’s load tests, a hoist worker was injured from a large piece of falling debris. One could paint a picture about how the company’s lack of concern for employees’ safety and wellbeing contributes to injuries. Jeopardizing the safety of the company’s employees is detrimental to the operational efficiency of the company. Moreover, cutting corners to make a quick buck can actually damage the company’s image, which can reduce revenue and affect the company’s ability to retain clients. Retaining current and new clients is the corner stone to any successful business. The Truss Construction Shop will do well to ensure that the way they treat their employees is a direct reflection of the company. Safety remains a big concern for the company, shifting the company’s focus from production to safety. “A study by Lockheed Martin of their Paducah Plant found that by developing a safety culture, they were able to increase employee productivity by 24% and reduce factory costs by 20%” (Is Safety Productive, Pg. 1, 2017). A safe work environment will increase Truss’ productivity, which will in turn take some of the pressure of maintaining strict production schedule. This change would allow the company to increase the company’s production, maintain, and or possibly increase their revenue stream by creating a safer environment for employees. A safer work environment will also have positive impact on the expenses that result from workplace injuries. The money that the company would normally spend on medical bills will decrease, making it easier for the Truss construction company to invest in more important things i.e. company expansion; better equipment etc. workplace safety would also decrease the likelihood of the company having litigation charges brought against
