Have you wanted a monkey in your trunk? In the early 2000’s, Suburban Auto Group released a series of commercials called the Trunk Monkey to persuade people. These commercials used a series of persuasive methods in order for people to buy their product. Ford uses such a commercial in 2011 called “The Date” to persuade people to buy their car. With regards to this, a person must know about the commercial Trunk Monkey “The Date” to fully understand it. The commercial Trunk Monkey “The Date” starts with two adolescents pulling up to a hill that overlooks the city. The male adolescent then parks the car and turns to the girl. The girl is astonished that her father would allow the boy to take out the father’s new car when the father wouldn’t even let the family touch the car. When the male adolescent starts to lean into the female for a kiss, the trunk monkey, which has been sitting in the back seat quietly, throws a banana peel at him. Both teens turn to the monkey, the girl looking exasperated and the boy looking bashful. The girl tells the monkey that he can leave the car, irritated with the monkey. Ethos is persuasive ability based on credibility (Kristadawnprice. “Ethos, Pathos, Logos.”). Suburban Auto Group uses the brand, Ford, as their credibility since Ford is such a well-known brand. Fords are durable and they are low of cost. An example of using ethos as to persuade people to the car is the car in the video. The car in the video is called the 2011 Kia Forte SX Sedan 4 Cylinder with the original pricing as $18,900 (Ford, Suburban. “Suburban Ford.”). This car has a gas mileage of 23 miles per gallon on in the city and 32 miles per gallon in the highway (Ford, Suburban. “Suburban Ford.”).
