Two years ago the mainstream media introduced the world to a billionaire businessman, and a career politician, with vastly different leadership styles that both declared to run for America’s top role as the next U.S. President. Though these men had somewhat different campaign messages and different ideas of how they would carry them out, both had novelty approaches that had never been seen before in U.S. Politics. President, Donald Trump, and the U.S. Senator of Vermont, Bernie Sanders, both had fiery messages that spoke on the insecurities of the American people and where the future of this nation is heading in extremely different ways (Keith, 2016). I bring this definition up because it emphasizes that leadership is a form of “human communication that changes attitudes and behaviors” to ultimately reach a goal, which falls in line with what these two presidential candidates attempted to do in this election. Both Trump and Sanders refused to fit their styles of communication into the way candidates have tried to influence the American people in the past. To give a few examples, Senator Sanders has displayed self-aware by exuding self-confidence in his fight against the political establishment that thinks his way of thinking is erratic and not possible. He has also displayed his motivation by spending 25 years in politics battling the way our government has handled things. He has displayed empathy by demonstrating his compassion for the many black lives that have been taken unjustly over the years. And Lastly, he has displayed his effectiveness in leading change by giving America a look at how many people are upset with our government and the way it is moving (Hazard, 2016). When thinking about President Trump’s emotional intelligence it is a hard thing to gauge. For example, Trump is somewhat
