Our constitution protects against authoritarianism by putting into place the three branches of government, Legislative, Executive, and Judicial, to keep each other in check. When one power is becoming too great the other branches are there to combat it with checks and balances. I don’t believe in the way he is handling these issues but I do think that this is just simply conservative policy actions and think he is trying to do what he feels is right. Some of the concerns that I do have about his policies are, first, with the immigration ban, the fact that he called it a ‘Muslim-ban’ and second, the fact that he left off Saudi Arabia and Egypt makes me question his intentions for the ban. Both of these countries had an influence on the 9/11 attacks so if he was trying to prevent terrorist attacks on American soil, it would only make sense that these two countries would be included in the ban. It is also known that almost 99% of the deaths from terrorist attacks were due to citizens of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, and Lebanon, and none of those countries are on this ban. This makes me suspicious that his ultimate motive is not to ban the countries involved with the majority of American deaths, but rather to ban countries with which the United States has few vested economic
