In 2006 the Truman High School in Independence, MO, discovered the truth. They did not know their kids. After a professional development activity, where faculty was asked to answer questions about the graduation senior class they discovered that they did not know anything about 33% of their students. This activity caused an entire shift to happen in the school. The school realized that they needed to change their culture and truly become thought they were. Truman decided to tackle the mission and vision statement first and foremost. “How do you live by words you do not know?” The truth in those words blew me away. A vision is essential because it give everyone a common destination. It serves as a uniting factor, bringing each other together
