On March 12th, 1947 the Truman Doctrine was announced by president Harry S. Truman. The Truman Doctrine was a foreign policy by the U.S that would assist any democratic country that was threatened by communism. The U.S got involved after the british announced they could not afford to support gresse. Truman believed that if one country fell to communism, other countries would as well (Domino theory.) The Doctrine laid down the idea of containment, or the idea that communism would not spread.
After World War 2 tensions began to rise between the Soviet Union, and the United States. This was a state of conflict between nations that did not involve military action. It started because of a clash of beliefs between the United States, and the Soviet
