True Wallace Speech

Guest Speaker True Wallace Last week we had a very nice woman named True Wallace visit us in our PLC class to bring ideas and talk about what a leader is and what a leader needs to do. She first asked us what our idea of a leader was and who we pictured when you think of the word leader. That made me really think because everyone has a similar idea of what a leader is but then I had to ask myself if I had these qualities that were named. Some of these qualities consist of having followers, life experience, and influence. I first thought to my self that I really don’t have much life experience because I’m only eighteen years old but it really doesn’t take too much life experience it just takes some important events that show leadership. …show more content…
True Wallace had always loved the arts and she said that her heart is for the Arts. I also agree that the arts are an extremely important aspect of life to never forget and that is why I pursue the art of another language. Another thing True said is, “You’re never going to make it in this world unless you get a thicker shell.” In a way I believe that means that you will never be able to progress in life or in your job unless you learn from your mistakes and take everything that people say into consideration and build off of it. Never give up on something when think it is hard because you can always learn and make it better the next

John Quincy Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” I believe there are two type of leaders- those who stand on a pedestal and ask that the world listens and those who lead by example, a humble example that does not boast and does not expect to be followed, but an example that is followed anyway because of its sincerity. My world was shaped by humble leaders. My world was shaped by the fifth-grade spelling teacher who would sacrifice her lunchtime every day to assist me in writing my first novel. My world was shaped by my middle school librarian who used to let me stay in the library after school every day and would recommend books to me and teach me about the difference…

Furthermore, while interviewing Elder Derrick, I asked him the tell me what leadership means to him. While giving me a straight stare, and as I observed the seriousness in his eyes, he said, “A definition to leadership means to me sacrifice, love dedication, to put it quite frankly, one that is willing to put himself/herself on the line to lead people into becoming well-qualified individuals in whatever they are called to do. All while leading by example of humiliation, and caring.” I found this definition to be an excellent one, because I believe that to lead you must have sympathy, encouraging, empowering, and most importantly wanting to see individuals grow and go beyond the call of duty in their endeavors. I found it quite interesting…

Simon presents many ideas about leadership and relationships. Did you relate to the information he presented and why? I feel that I have related to the information he presented because leadership is not a position, but a choice. As children, we did not understand the sacrifices our parents had to make in order to provide us better opportunities. Besides looking up to Santa Claus, we understood that our parents were our main leaders in life. In addition, when we became teenagers, we started looking up to our favorite musicians or celebrities as a leader and aspired to be just like them. However, it is when we become adults that we start to question what an actual leader is. Even though we see our parents as great leaders, we now have people in our professional lives who lead us as well.…

Leadership is much more complicated than providing guidance to a group of individuals or an organization, it is multidimensional and requires both experience and knowledge. A powerful quote from Carly Fiorina proves my point, she said: “Leadership is about making a positive difference for and with others. Leadership is about the integrity of one’s character, the caliber of one’s capabilities, and the effectiveness of one’s collaboration with others.” Reflecting on this statement, I realize I am not a picture-perfect leader, but I have certain strengths and weaknesses that, if further developed, could help me one day become a valued leader.…

These qualities include intelligence, self-confidence, determination, integrity, and sociability. Contrary to the trait theory, I am of the firm belief that some of these characteristics can be learned and developed through experience and human interaction. A practical example of the trait theory of leadership is as follows: John Doe has noticed that his…

Honor, Courage, and Commitment; was written proudly on the walls in the NJROTC classroom. First time stepping into this room as a 9th grader with so many students "well leaders" in front of me with so much honor to be here and so much courage written all over them. Our Commander was so proud, and you can really see that she really like her position to have the whole entire ROTC cabinet. Being in 9th grade and in a whole new school with so much to withhold everything came naturally. Leadership is one of the qualities that I was created and molded to be.…

I can still remember the day when my parents told me the phrase, “You are a leader, not a follower.” It was in kindergarden right after I told them about a few girls who were making fun of a friend of fine, and I decided to stop them and defend her. When my parents told me that phrase, it definitely stuck with me throughout my life. I think that’s a phase most kids hear time to time in their childhood. It’s that phrase that makes you question, what it a leader?…

A normal person might strive to be average, to be the okay for the moment and never truly use their full potential. For a normal person, being in a leadership position can sometimes be too hard, complicated, and stressful if they are not dedicated or prepared. Each of these factors can discourage many people, people who have the potential but not the training or motivation to hold a position of leadership. I, however, believe that I have the potential, the training, and the motivation to do something amazing as the VP of District Four. As I stated, every person has the potential to be a leader, though some stand out more than others.…

My perspective of what it means to be a man and leader has changed significantly over these past few years. Every aspect that I associated with being leader either came from books that I have read, coaches, teachers, or my family. Most of these people practiced a management style than actually leadership, a quid pro quo approach. In fact that is why I leaned towards coming to the United States Naval Academy. I have read many military stories of great leaders, John Basilone and Jack Lummus to name a few that had the ability to inspire and encourage men to follow them into great success no matter the odds.…

When describing a leader, some might use adjectives such as fearless, strong, smart or confident. I have had the pleasure of working with leaders that contained those attributes and have had the dissatisfaction of working with leaders that were sub-par. Working with a variety of leadership styles over the past six years has given me the opportunity to form lists of ideal do’s and don’ts that I plan to use when I move into administration. Over the past few weeks, my lists have been further expanded by this course. I have learned that the ideal leader must be flexible, compassionate, reflective, persistent, and curious.…
