My step dad is African American and we have a close relationship. When we are in public sometimes we get harsh remarks or very rude looks because we are of different races. Children are growing up confused because they have never seen a mixed relationship. My step dad owns a business and one day a white woman wanted to take my picture with the business. When she saw that my stepdad was African American she decided she didn’t want to take my picture anymore and she walked away. This would be a perfect example of why America will never reach true social and racial inequality.
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom Robinson was accused of rape by Bob Ewell. Tom was completely innocent for raping Mayella Ewell, because of Tom’s color he was judged and put in jail even though he never touched her. Mind you this is back in segregational times, people thought they could put anything on African Americans because they will always be guilty. Bob Ewell was actually the one who raped his own daughter. In my opinion, that’s sickening that you judge someone by the color of their skin (Lee, Ch 17-25
