In the story, True Legend, by Mike Lupica, the main character, Drew Robinson, is a basketball prodigy. He eats, drinks, breathes, and sleeps basketball. I can easily relate him to myself, being a basketball fanatic. If I could choose to have Drew as my friend in real life, I would choose no, only because Drew is so focused on basketball, he cannot keep up with his school work. I am like the opposite, because I care very much about school and my grades, but I do love basketball like him WHat I do admire about Drew is that he loves and cares about his family. Drew’s dad left his mom and Drew when he was a baby so he doesn’t remember his dad. Without a dad, it makes Drew closer to his mom and creates a special bond. Although my dad never left my family, a setback in my family is definitely all the injuries my brother has had. My brother has sprained and fractured his ankle and upper foot, dislocated his knee twice, and dislocated his shoulder. With all his injuries, he has had to have surgeries upon surgeries. Drew’s nickname, True Robinson, which implies that this game is legit, meaning he is very good. He got this nickname because he is the top high school player in the country, which is a fantasy of mine. I don’t have an official nickname, but sometimes my coach or teammates will joke around call me, “Larry” after a good performance. The reason for this is because it is short for for Larry Bird who was a basketball legend and one of the best shooters of all time in the NBA. I like it when they call me this because it boosts my confidence and makes me feel like I am constantly getting better and it is evident to them.
